Understanding Optic Fitment on Jacob Grey Handguns

Understanding Optic Fitment on the Jacob Grey TWC Series

When it comes to precision handguns, the connection between your optic and your firearm is everything. At Jacob Grey, our engineering team designed the TWC 9, TWC Black, and TWC Hex double-stack 1911s to support a broad range of today’s most popular micro red dot sights—balancing form, function, and precision alignment.

Engineering for Compatibility

From the earliest design phases, our goal was to ensure proper fitment and point of aim/point of impact (POA/POI)alignment across a wide spectrum of optics. The industry has seen an explosion of new red dot designs, mounting footprints, and internal adjustment ranges—each with unique geometries that challenge universal compatibility.

To meet that challenge, Jacob Grey developed a modular optics interface and precision-machined adapter plates, allowing shooters to pair their TWC series pistol with leading optics from Trijicon, Holosun, Aimpoint, Leupold, and others.

While our mounting system allows for proper fitment and alignment with most major brands, certain optics with limited elevation travel may fall outside the optimal range for perfect zero alignment at close distances (around 7 yards).

Why Elevation Travel Matters

Every red dot sight has a defined range of elevation and windage travel, typically measured in minutes of angle (MOA). This internal adjustment range determines how much the dot can move within the sight housing to align your POA and POI.

  • Optics with 70 MOA or more of elevation travel typically allow perfect alignment with Jacob Grey handguns without additional adjustment.
  • Optics with less than 70 MOA may require an optic shim to achieve precise POA/POI alignment—especially at shorter distances.

For example, the Holosun EPS Carry or Aimpoint ACRO, both offering roughly ±30 MOA (≈60 total), may need a shim or may not allow perfect alignment due to their limited adjustment range and enclosed-emitter design.

Design Trade-Offs and Intentional Choices

In firearm engineering, there’s no such thing as a “free lunch.” Every design choice involves a trade-off between compatibility, structural integrity, and aesthetics. We intentionally prioritized optical axis alignment, frame rigidity, and sight-line balance to create one of the most visually and mechanically cohesive handgun platforms in its class.

The result: a pistol that maintains its clean, low-profile silhouette while offering exceptional red dot integration with the optics that matter most to today’s shooters.
